We take, we take, we take… more than we will ever be
able to give back. We pillage what is needed to build empires and sustain our modern lives, irreversibly transforming the world around us in the process. But it is dangerous to play God in a world that owns us, for the environment we so carelessly exploit is indiscriminate in its violent retaliation. A cycle of destruction, amplified and exponentially accelerated by human activity, has been set in motion - and the future may see us drown in its wake.

FACE VALUE
2019
|
Fear. Loneliness. Anxiety. Anger. We all live with a variety of emotions, but we rarely feel comfortable sharing our inner reality with others. We feel judged by our degree of happiness and in order to appear successful, we hide our true emotions behind a shroud of false contentment. Face Value reveals that which is hidden behind our facades and sheds light on our most deeply buried emotions. Maybe, if we allowed ourselves to be a bit more transparent with one another, we would see that we are less alone than we think.

BLUE HOUR
2018
|
The choices that define us; the time that shapes us; the places that build us; and the balancing act between darkness and light that gives meaning to it all: this summer Borealis Soul explores the enigma of these elements, the connections between them, and the collateral beauty and desolation that they leave behind. Following the story of two individuals affected by trauma, and their experiences in the aftermath of this, Blue Hour explores themes of grief, hope, depression, and community through the lens of life in the North. This visceral performance demonstrates the power of choices made in the face of adversity and the resilience that can be found in the darkest places. Showcased through entirely original movement, music, and film, this performance inspires recognition and appreciation for the forces that keep us grounded throughout our experiences.

DARK, COLD, AND QUIET
2017
Dark, Cold, & Quiet is a multidisciplinary hip-hop theatre work inspired by the effect extremes have on our lives; the midnight sun and starless winters nights; scorching summer days and weeks of 40 below; trees falling in a windstorm and the kind of quiet that can only be experienced on a mountaintop. Our summers are bright, warm, and lively. Our winters are dark, cold, and quiet. This production investigates the connection between our physical environment and ourselves, and in turn the role that our environment plays in shaping our relationships. With all-original music, live rapping and singing, captivating video, and powerful dance, Borealis Soul tells stories of what it means to live and thrive in the Yukon as young people today.

HUMAN NATURE
2015
Human Nature was created in the summer of 2015 in Whitehorse, where it premiered before touring to ten Yukon communities as part of the Full On Yukon tour. This work researches what it means to be human and considers opposing elements such as anger and ease, good and bad, and darkness and light. What happens to our relationships and interactions when we add group dynamics, emotions, and miscommunication into the mix? Dance and music vignettes are woven together with visual art by Ali Koda to create an intense, visceral experience.
